Science Foundation Ireland is the national foundation for investments in scientific and engineering research. It invests in academic researchers and research teams who are most likely to generate new knowledge, leading edge technologies, and competitive enterprises in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The foundation also promotes and supports the study of, education in, and engagement with STEM, as well as promotes awareness and understanding of the value of STEM to the society and the growth of the economy. Science Foundation Ireland makes grants based on the merit reviews of distinguished scientists. It also advances cooperative efforts among education, government, and industry that support its fields of emphasis and promotes Ireland’s ensuing achievements around the world. Science Foundation Ireland was founded by the Irish government in 1998. It is based in Dublin, Ireland.
